Birthday parties without spending a fortune

It's the middle of summer and since we're in the "lull" right before school assemblies start filling up my fall school assembly calendar, I thought I'd throw a little tidbit out to parents about saving some money this summer!

You don’t need to spend a small fortune to have a fun birthday party for kids. If your budget is a little tight, here are some frugal birthday party ideas that can help you keep the costs down.

The first thing to be aware of is that the more guests you have, the more money you’ll spend on food and supplies. Try inviting fewer guests. Or you can try a sleep-over party with some of your child’s closest friends. It will be twice as fun, with less the effort.

Choose a theme that will display your child’s hobbies like arts and crafts , sports , item collection , movies , and more .Not only will it be cost-effective, it will keep them busy for hours and provide loads of fun.

You can also host the party at an inexpensive place such as a park, where there’s lots of space for them to play. If you want to be unique, you can take the kids to a science museum or at a theater and I guarantee you, they will be thrilled.

Another way to scale down on the cost is to team up with other kids who are celebrating on the same month and split the cost with their parents.

You can also save money by creating your own party favors and invitations . You can make unique, creative goody bags by checking out your nearest dollar store or making little cups filled with sweets and tie them up with a ribbon and a hand written thank you note with the child’s name on it. You can check out those how-to videos and learn how to make your own invitations.

Think of games that need very little props.

And lastly, you can save on food by making them yourself as opposed to ordering it from somewhere or employing a food catering service.

The most fun parties need not be the most expensive ones. You can have fabulous birthday parties without spending a fortune. All it takes is a little imagination, good planning, and a great attitude.
