A tweet (above) by renowned American historian Michael Beschloss shows the ORIGINAL American Flag that flew over Fort McHenry over 200 years ago.
Reminding us of one of the greatest poems in American history penned by the lawyer, Francis Scott Key while he watched American soldiers defend the fort from what seemed like a never-ending barrage.
O say, can you see, by the dawn's early light,
What so proudly we hailed at the twilight's last gleaming,
Whose broad stripes and bright stars, through the perilous fight,
O'er the ramparts we watched, were so gallantly streaming
And the rockets' red glare, the bombs bursting in air,
Gave proof through the night that our flag was still there.
O say, does that star-spangled banner yet wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave
